Spinning around

So I'm leaning on the bar at closing time, finishing the last round with some friends. When this guy walks up needing an aspirin and a cigarette. I help him out. He tells this fantastic story of just surviving a spin around total your car against the wall accident he just survived on I-35 - in his new car on which he just put four new tires ...

...after absorbing the drama of a compelling tale (drama major!) the details come out. Turns out its an '84 Celica and he bought 3 tires, used the spare from the trunk with no idea how old it might be, and the spare blew. Well, duh, a tire of indeterminate age from the hot trunk of an old car? Well now. I wasn't too impressed at this point. Great story, big let down when it turned out we didn't have a good case to take to court.

"What did you first think when you met me?" he asks, weeks later.

"That I hope I always find boyfriends smart enough to buy four tires at once" I respond.
